Spices and herbs with a long tradition in the kitchen
Several common spices have a long history of use in European herbal tradition, described as early as the 12th century by the abbess Hildegard of Bingen in her well-known medicinal writings.
Fennel
Fennel is one of the more classic herbs in European folk medicine, traditionally used by chewing the seeds after meals, a custom still practiced in parts of India and the Mediterranean region.
Chamomile
Chamomile tea is one of the most well-known herbal teas in the Western world, long used as a relaxing evening tea. Brew 1 teaspoon of dried chamomile with 2.5 dl of freshly boiled water and let steep for 3-5 minutes.
Caraway
Caraway has been used as a spice in both Scandinavian and Middle Eastern cooking for centuries, known among other things from traditional breads and cheeses.
